As a full time working young father of two in a the middle of a house renovation, Allan gave little thought for his heart health – until a heart attack nearly took his life.
Luckily for Allan his wife Rhi was there and was able to do CPR until help arrived and he was rushed to hospital. Luckily at The Prince of Wales Hospital he was able to begin treatment that would help get his life back on track. After he was stabilised, Allan had an AICD implanted – this is a small electronic device monitors and corrects abnormal heart rhythm, or arrhythmia. Getting a balance proved difficult as various health issues arose and these meant lengthy hospital stays.
“This is where these mobile cardiac monitors made a huge difference as it meant I could get around a bit and spend more time with my family when they came to visit,” said Allan.
The great news just in is that Allan is now back at home with his wonderful family – he is now back at work and just got the okay that he can start driving again.
“Life is getting back to normal,” said Allan. “And just to make sure we have a distraction around the house to lighten the mood we have just got a new puppy called Bailey who is super cute and the kids love him”.
