Lachlan's Story:
Life Changed Overnight

Lachlan was 35, recently married to Jesse and at the height of his law career. Gradually, he noticed it was difficult to find the right words when speaking and typing.

Jesse was worried too and encouraged Lachlan to seek help.

An MRI at the Prince of Wales Hospital revealed Lachlan had a lesion on his brain.  Then came the devastating news that it was brain cancer.

He needed immediate surgery – which included an awake craniotomy, to ensure his speech and language centres weren’t irreversibly damaged – radiotherapy and chemotherapy came next. As he began the gruelling rounds of treatment, the couple received bittersweet news. Jesse was pregnant.

While undergoing countless hours of treatment and speech therapy, Jesse’s pregnancy bloomed and a healthy baby, Liam, arrived. A magical moment in time bringing joy to Lachlan and Jesse, and their families.

Chemotherapy is currently keeping Lachlan’s cancer stable, and he loves being a dad. But Lachlan and Jesse face the future with a heartbreaking mix of hope, joy and fear.

People like Lachlan and his family need exceptional patient care, made possible by the Prince of Wales Hospital team, and generous supporters like you.
