BENEFACTOR STORIES

Meet Antony

After I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2013, I was referred to the Prince of Wales Hospital oncology department for treatment which has resulted in a good outcome. For the past 6 years I have seen firsthand the work of the hospital oncology doctors, nurses and ancillary staff and, via a colleague, the emergency, cardiac and gastrointestinal units of the hospital.

During this time I have also learned about the rehabilitation and support services and have had extensive exposure to the excellent services and support of the hospital staff which are paramount to recovery. Between the time I have personally spent in the hospital and the time visiting a colleague there over an extensive period of time I learnt of the support that the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation (POWHF) provides by way of raising funds in support of funding  for research and improved facilities to the hospital together with support facilities for staff and patients.

Through this I decided in 2017 to become a regular giver donating monthly to the foundation and  to make provision in my Will for a bequest to the Foundation.

Through attending a number of fundraising events at the POW Hospital I have been able to see firsthand the work  being undertaken in the laboratory facilities and other areas of the hospital and understand why these works are so important to ensure that advances are made in the treatment of a number of conditions and diseases with the support of the Foundation.

I have been pleased to be able to offer support to the foundation through regular donations over the past few years, seen the benefits of my donations, and look forward to continuing this in the hope that the foundation will be better placed to provide funding into the future particularly in the field of research especially in the oncology field.
