As you walk through the corridors of Prince of Wales Hospital, you may notice something quietly captivating—a series of serene domestic scenes, rich with fruits, flowers, and glimpses of the outside world, brought to life by the thoughtful brush of artist Pat Jacobs.
Pat has painted for many years, with a strong foundation in figurative work. In recent years, she has found herself drawn to the quiet complexity of still life—exploring composition, colour, the nature of objects and their subtle connections to the world beyond the frame. Her process begins with a spontaneous, energetic response to her subject, followed by careful reflection and refinement. The result is artwork that feels both immediate and meditative.
Now featured in the hospital’s public spaces, Pat’s work offers more than visual beauty—it provides a moment of calm and contemplation for patients, visitors and staff alike. Her paintings invite viewers to pause, notice and breathe, aligning with the hospital’s mission to support healing through creativity.

What is the Art Space?
The Art Space is a Community Engagement program created by the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation (POWHF). The Art Space provides artists throughout NSW a unique opportunity to exhibit and sell their works within the Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH), as well as fundraise for the Hospital’s area of greatest need.
Hospitals around the world recognise the important role art plays as a healing tool. In a sometimes-stressful environment, artwork can benefit patients by aiding in their physical, mental and emotional recovery, relieving anxiety and decreasing their perception of pain.
Are you an artist looking to showcase and sell your work while supporting a great cause? We’d love to hear from you!
