Help patients like Lucy access exceptional medical care, all year round.

Lucy’s family life was dramatically altered late last year as she experienced something few of us will ever have to – spending the festive season in hospital at a time of year when families, friends and loved ones spend precious time together. Soon after being hospitalised, Lucy was completely paralysed, and was diagnosed with an incredibly rare autoimmune disorder.

Without urgent treatment, Lucy’s and her unborn baby’s lives were at risk.

“Teamwork is the most important factor for delivering the best outcome for patients like Lucy. Diagnosis quickly revealed that her debilitated state was due to Neuromyelitis Optica or NMO. Left untreated NMO can present as a very severe disability and that disability can persist.”

With your help, a tax-deductible gift can ensure patients like Lucy get the urgent care they need this festive season.

Over the past two decades we have raised over $65 million that has funded medical research, innovations in patient care and treatment, delivered by the incredible specialist teams at Prince of Wales Hospital – saving countless lives.

This would not have been possible without our generous donor community who we express our deepest gratitude to, as they help us support the ever changing healthcare needs of people just like Lucy, and maybe someone you love. Because of you, we’re always here and always caring.

You can have a real and lasting impact on patients and their families who have been impacted by medical incidents over the festive season and beyond.

“In Australia we’re so privileged because we have access to healthcare. But no one sees the amount of research that goes into rare conditions like NMO. A decade ago ago my diagnosis could have been Multiple Sclerosis, but with donor funding, clinicians and doctors at public hospitals can do medical research to help patients like me with a rare chronic condition.”
